While the vast majority of video slot titles are available across all devices these days, it’s always nice to see a game that has been specially built for portable play like Microgaming’s The Grand Journey slot.

A five-reel, 30-payline title, The Grand Journey slot machine has clearly been inspired by one of two sources – either the kitsch fantasy adventure films of the 70s and 80s or the Victorian tales written by the likes of H.G. Wells. The game features a range of unique symbols including an adventurer’s pack, a tribal mask, a volcano and a… ahem… busty Amazon, while a square-jawed adventurer is the most rewarding icon.

Playable from as little as £0.30 per spin, The Grand Journey includes a top base game jackpot of 1,000x players’ bet per line amount and a surprisingly high RTP of 96.35%. In order to actually realise this figure, however, players will need to cross their fingers and attempt to trigger the main bonus round.

Journey Around The World

To do this, players will simply need to land three or more globe scatter symbols anywhere in view. Once this has been done, they’ll receive a small payout and a standard allocation of 15 free spins that also benefit from a handy multiplier trail that appears beneath the reels throughout the bonus feature.

Basically, whenever a player fails to land a win from one of their free spins, their multiplier will increase by 1x up to a maximum of 10x and will only reset once a prize has been secured. This creates a weird situation where players are actively rooting to miss out on payline combinations until a decent multiplier has been saved up – and although further spins can’t be triggered, it is a pretty nice feature.

On top of that, during the base game, players will also be able to benefit from a dynamic wild symbol that appears stacked on all reels and will even expand to fill the entire column if it lands on reel three.
